NDP calls on government to reverse its decision to kill the Saskatchewan solar industry
NDP Leader Ryan Meili has called on Premier Scott Moe to reverse today's cut to the net metering program and immediately return to the previous 1:1 net metering credit rate.
Moe announced today his government would be eliminating the rebate from their net metering program and slashing the excess power credit rate from 14 cents per kilowatt hour to 7.5 cents.

Business owners such as Bradyn Parisian, founder and owner of Mo’ Solar Company, have been let down by the Sask. Party when they promised to consult and come up with a plan for the net metering program they scrapped. In order to stop the devastation of this industry, the hurt caused to the economy, and to protect jobs, the NDP is calling on the government to reverse its decision to halt the program and get to work in consulting with those in the industry that have been hurt by the cut.
“This is an industry that was growing strong in the province, but the Sask. Party brought it to a stop without a plan forward,” said NDP Finance Critic Trent Wotherspoon. “The Sask. Party’s disgraceful approach has left local businesses and workers in the dark, and jobs are being lost. The focus needs to be on building these workers and businesses up, not shutting them out.”

“Bragging about population growth while refusing to fund increasing enrolment in schools shows, yet again, that the Sask. Party is clean out of ideas to make our province better,” Meili said. “Crowded classrooms and crowded emergency rooms are symptoms of how Scott Moe and the Sask. Party are letting people down.”

With Crown sector workers slated to strike as of Monday, NDP Leader Ryan Meili called on Premier Scott Moe to get to work on a deal.
“After months of pretending he’s not involved, it’s time for the Premier to come out from hiding and take leadership,” Meili said. “His government squeezed $209 million in dividends from our Crowns this year, and now they’re expecting the people who work for our Crowns to accept less. Scott Moe is showing us exactly what he’s about: good deals for his buddies, and bad deals for families.”

As major problems with the Sask. Party’s net metering program become apparent, the NDP is calling for a more robust program to fill the gaps.
“We have the best solar exposure and a government with new ideas could put that to good use, but the Sask. Party is out of ideas and letting people down,” Meili said. “Imagine how much a government committed to ensuring Saskatchewan is a leader in renewable energy could accomplish.”
