Gas Prices Increasing
While gas prices at the pumps are soaring to new heights, Saskatchewan drivers are being left in the lurch.
Back when the Saskatchewan Party was in Opposition, they promised Saskatchewan people that they had a plan to put money into their pocketbooks. They promised in 2005 that if elected, they would immediately cut the gas tax by one cent for every dollar the price of oil goes above $60.00 US a barrel.
Look at what Premier Brad Wall had to say back when he was Leader of the Opposition:
The Minister of Government Services, Dan D’Autremont, was even more direct:
The Saskatchewan Party aren’t the only ones breaking a solemn promise: Back when Stephen Harper was the Leader of the Opposition in Ottawa, he too promised to help drivers. His plan? He promised to eliminate the GST portion of gas prices above 85 cents. But now that he’s Prime Minister, he’s gone back on his word.
NDP leader Lorne Calvert has written to the Prime Minister and demanded that he keep his word to Saskatchewan motorists. Further, he has encouraged the federal Conservative Party to follow the Saskatchewan NDP government’s lead by legislating that all taxes on fuel collected by the federal government in Saskatchewan be returned to the province and dedicated to transportation infrastructure and maintenance.
Health regions have announced that prenatal classes, breastfeeding support, and immunizations of school children will be suspended to give H1N1 vaccinations instead.
"Deficits are like potato chips...they're not very good for your long-term health, and bet you can't stop at just one."

Property tax increases hurting less well-off...
May 4, 2010
The four-per-cent increase in property taxes is almost the last straw for hundreds of Regina ratepayers who own smaller homes. Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security payments have not increased by four per cent; neither have the incomes of most wage-earners. -Christine Whitaker, Edgeley, The Leader-Post
